Gizbot: Apple iPhone 5 was released in India on November 2, 2012 and from
one of the locations of launch event – UB City, Bangalore, Gizbot reported that
the 32GB and 64GB variants of the iPhone 5 were sold out and that consumers
were left with only 16GB option within 75 minutes the Smartphone got launched.
However, a recent Wall Street Journal report states that the
iPhone 5 units are sold out completely across India. As per the report, only
10,000 to 15,000 units were shipped to India (supply issue was reported
earlier) initially and it seems like all the units have gone out of stock.
The report also quotes the CEO of a leading retailer – The Mobile
Store, Himanshu Chakaravarti claiming that the company with over 900 stores
across the nation has sold out all the iPhone 5 units within 24 hours of its
release. However, Airtel has managed to sell the carrier until November 4,
2012. It is to be noted that there is a shortage in the supply of white iPhone
5 and Airtel was selling on the 16GB black variant of the handset. readmore
